Czech racing driver Jan Charouz achieved quite impressive result in his first official Formula Renault 3.5 World Series by Renault test, when on Thursday he gained sixth position. Unfortunately, on Friday an accident occurred, so he couldn’t improve his result.

The first one from three official test sessions of Formula Renault 3.5 World Series by Renault was held on Spanish Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona. After regular night rains, the track was getting dry during mornings. Around noon the track was always dry.

Jan Charouz, P1 Motorsport driver: “I am happy with my result of Thursday test. I achieved a quite good time, although it could be even better. In my fastest lap yellow flags flied, and I had to slow down. However, to the absolute top drivers of World Series by Renault I have been still losing. I know a lot of hard work is ahead of us. Unfortunately on Friday, I started the lap on cold tires, and had an accident. Team mechanics weren’t able to repair its consequences in time, so I couldn’t restart in the test. Anyway, if I compare my result with my first Formula 3.5 test, it’s clear I’ve made a great progress, so I am very happy.”

Antonin Charouz, Jan Charouz’s manager: “I am happy with Jan’s Thursday result. I realized he did it right way. But I am not happy with his Friday’s accident – something like this shouldn’t happen, because due to it Jan lost one day of testing. And it’s a shame.”

Roly Vincini, P1 Motorsport director: “On Thursday Jan did very good job, and it was a great day for him and also for our team. He could finish in Top 3, but he didn’t have a free track. However, he showed his possibilities, and it is important. Unfortunately on Friday, in the accident on cold tires he damaged his formula so much, he couldn’t restart in the test. Anyway, Jan’s performance is positive and his improvement is encouraging.”

Jan Charouz’s team-mate Walter Grubmüller jr. (AUS) finished 17th in the rankings of first day of testing. In overall rankings he was 19th.
