Jan Charouz had very busy first half of June. The first weekend raced Formula Renault 3.5 at Brno and immediately afterwards travelled to Le Mans where he tackled 24 hours race behind the wheel of an LM2 prototype Pescarolo Judd with the OAK Racing team. It was Jan’s fourth start in the legendary endurance race and for the fourth time he finished in the top 10 overall and this time was second in the LMP1 class. Jan’s performance at the La Sarthe track was positively judged also by senior members of the Renault F1 team.
After just few days of relax Jan has returned to France again. This time to Magny Cours track which hosts races number 8 and 9 of the World Series Formula Renault 3.5. Jan aims to follow his previous performances. During World Series weekend at Brno in the beginning of June he scored on Saturday his best classified result to date 7th place and he was also best rookie.
He did well also in Monday’s test where he was sixth overall and third rookie.
Also Jan’s team-mate Walter Grubmueller jun. from Austria had a good weekend at Brno. He fought up to 4th place overall and second n the rookies on Saturday. He was just 0.036 second behind Jan Charouz during Monday’s test.
Jan Charouz: “Last round at Brno was very demanding because I had many other duties alongside racing. Of course, it is part of our job but in a way I am looking forward to the fact that other drivers will be in the spotlight at Magny Cours and I will be able to focus on racing only. I think that I proved again At Brno that I am able to fight at the top. Or aim is still the same to finish in the top 10 and score points but I would like to try to get top 5 in France. I have some knowledge of the Magny Cours track as I raced there in F3000 and also tested LMP2 prototype. I like it.”
Walter Grubmueller jun.: “Together with the team I did the official test at Brno after the racing weekend at the Masaryk circuit. I was sixth in the afternoon. We worked a lot on the setup and I hope it will pay dividends in France. The only disadvantage is fact that my last race at Magny Cours was four years ago with Formula Renault 2.0. It is long time but I am still reasonable optimistic.”
